Our Story

Nickole

Nickole was born and raised in Quezon City, Philippines and migrated with her family to Canada in 2012. She is the older of two children. She studied International Relations and is currently an immigration consultant. A perfect day for her would be exploring a city, trying a new restaurant (preferably a brunch spot), reading a book while chilling at a cafe, and getting around on public transit. Her favourite food is fried chicken and Korean BBQ. Since visiting Spain last year, she also can’t get enough jamón ibérico.

Preston

Preston was born in Ottawa, Ontario and moved to Vernon, BC in 2004, where he grew up. He is the oldest of three children. He served his mission in Barcelona Spain and there developed a love for all kinds of food from around the world. He studied political science, travelled around South America, and now works in the video game industry in Montreal. He speaks Spanish, French, and is “just okay” at Portuguese. He’s slowly learning Tagalog as well. His favourite food is Peruvian ceviche de pescado or a good fideuà.

Nickole and Preston

Preston and Nickole met at a YSA potluck in Kelowna in 2019. Preston had just moved back to Vernon from Hawaii, and Nickole had just finished her last semester at UBCO. Nickole sat in an empty seat in front of Preston and introduced herself. They instantly hit it off as friends. A few more run-ins and a few months later, they began dating.

They bonded over a shared love of travel, culture, food, languages, and concerts. Preston then moved to Montreal and they dated long distance through the pandemic, until Nickole moved to Montreal in 2021. They travelled locally and internationally, met each other’s families, and started traditions of their own (like going to an amusement park and attending a horror film festival every Halloween).

Preston first proposed in Paris in front of the Eiffel Tower in 2024, but they didn’t make it official. In Fall 2025, Nickole had an inkling Preston would propose for real when he took her hand and measured her ring finger with a string. In December 2025, they were both in BC visiting family for Christmas. On the morning of the 24th, Preston drove Nickole to one of their favourite spots, a scenic lookout overlooking Okanagan Lake. It started snowing a bit, then Preston got on one knee and asked Nickole to marry him. Of course she said yes 🙂

We can’t wait to celebrate the next chapter of our love story with all of you in September!
